U.S. Grant Camp #68 was chartered on January 25, 1996 and named after the General and 18th President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant.
The camp holds its meetings at Grand Slam Sports Bar, Mae Ct, Fenton, MO 63026

Meetings are held at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month (except August and December).   Please email a camp officer prior to attending to confirm meeting time.

Projects and Activities

It is our responsibility to honor and preserve the memory of the patriotic Union soldiers and members of Grant Army of the Republic who defended and preserved our Nation.  To that end, each year, the Grant Camp seeks out and restores Civil War markers, grave sites and memorials, and monuments to the Grand Army of the Republic. 

Annual Camp Projects include: General Sherman Remembrance Day at Calvary Cemetery, 56th US Colored Troops Remembrance at Jefferson Barracks, Memorial Day at Jefferson Barracks, US Grant Remembrance Day at the US Grant National Historic Site in Affton, MO.

In addition to the camp projects, camp members also participate in Lincoln Death Day at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL,  and Veteran's Day Parades, work with local Boy Scout troops and provide presentations to schools and the general public on the Civil War and its soldiers.

Membership Information

Membership in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is open to all male descendants, whether through lineal or collateral line, and not less than 14 years of age who:

(1) are a blood relative of a soldier, sailor, marine or member of the Revenue Cutter Service, who was regularly mustered and served honorably in, was honorably discharged from or died in the service of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Revenue Cutter Service of the United States of America or in such state regiments called to active service and was subject to orders of United States general officers between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865;

(2) have never been convicted of any infamous or heinous crime and

(3) have, or whose ancestor through whom membership is claimed, has never voluntarily borne arms against the government of the United States; or,

(4) Males who do not have the ancestry to qualify for hereditary membership, but who demonstrate a genuine interest in the Civil War, who are 14 years of age or older and who can subscribe to the purpose and objects of the SUVCW may become Associate Members.

(5)U.S. Grant Camp #68 also provides for Junior Membership & Junior Associates. Junior Members & Junior Associates shall be males between the ages of 8 and 14 who meet the qualifications for membership. They may become SUVCW Members at age 14.  They must be accompanied to meetings and events by a parent or approved guardian.

WHY IS THERE A SONS OF UNION VETERANS OF THE CIVIL WAR?

In 1866, Union Veterans of the Civil War organized into the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and became a social and political force hat would control the destiny of the nation for more than six decades. Membership in the veterans' organization was restricted to individuals who had served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Revenue Cutter Service during the Civil War, thereby limiting the life span of the GAR. The GAR existed until 1956.
In 1881 the GAR formed the Sons of Veterans of the United States of America (SV) to carry on its traditions and memory long after the GAR had ceased to exist. In 1925 the SV name was changed to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), under which its federal charter was issued in 1954.
