The 2nd Regiment, Missouri Infantry - Co. A (1861) is part of the Sons of Veterans Reserve, 4th Military District. Many of the members of US Grant Camp belong to this unit or another one. A mistake made often by the public is that the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a reenacting group. It is not! The SUVCW is a patriotic organization and the Sons of Veterans Reserve is a subsection of the SUVCW that wears Civil War uniforms to serve as an honor guard at meetings and perform other ceremonial activities.
Back around the turn of the 20th Century, the Sons of Veterans was considered as a type of national guard unit. Many camps had stores of arms at their headquarters and it was assumed they would take up arms again should America need it. With the Spanish-American War and Philippine Uprising taking place many Sons of Veterans joined the military.
